Sheriff: ‘Push poison, go to jail’ after Lee County drug sweep nets suspects

FORT MYERS, Fla. – Lee County Sheriff Carmine Marceno announced his department apprehended three suspects and seized a significant amount

FORT MYERS, Fla. – Lee County Sheriff Carmine Marceno announced his department apprehended three suspects and seized a significant amount of narcotics and firearms during a recent operation, describing the bust as part of an ongoing push to keep dangerous drugs off the streets.

Speaking on Florida’s Voice Radio with Drew Steele, Marceno said deputies recovered nine guns, including two stolen out of Fort Lauderdale and one with its serial numbers scratched off, along with 55 grams of fentanyl, 21 grams of heroin and 207 grams of methamphetamine.

“The great residents of Lee County deserve to live with law and order in a safe, secure environment,” Marceno said. “The people that push poison on the street, they need to leave because they’re going to get incarcerated. It’s not if, but when.”

Marceno credited county commissioners for providing resources that allowed the sheriff’s office to double the size of its narcotics unit, enabling more proactive operations. He said the recent search warrant execution that led to the arrests took three suspects with “serious criminal history” out of circulation.

“When you take three suspects out of a house like that, all with serious criminal history, you take poison off the streets, you’re saving lives,” Marceno said. “We help those that are addicted. We incarcerate the people that push poison.”

Marceno said the sheriff’s office is committed to sustaining pressure on drug networks in Southwest Florida, calling the latest seizure part of an ongoing effort to make Lee County “a better place to live.”
